Our Commitment

Why We Publish Our Methodology

The air fryer review market is crowded with sites that rank products based primarily on which models pay the highest affiliate commission. We built AirFryerFinder.com to be different โ€” and publishing this methodology page is how we prove it.

By making our scoring criteria, test protocols, and editorial policies fully transparent, we let you evaluate whether our approach is sound before you trust our recommendations. If you believe our methodology is flawed or our findings are inaccurate, we want to hear it โ€” see Section 8 for how to flag concerns.

โœ…
Editorial Independence Statement

Commission rates available through the Amazon Associates Program are never a factor in our product rankings. No manufacturer has paid for, previewed, or approved any review before publication. Free review samples (if received) are disclosed in the relevant post and do not guarantee a positive assessment. See our Affiliate Disclosure for full details.

Scoring Framework

Our 8-Point Evaluation Criteria

Every air fryer reviewed on AirFryerFinder.com is scored against these eight criteria. Each criterion is weighted based on its impact on the typical home cook’s daily experience. The combined weighted score determines the overall rating displayed in our buying guides.

01

Cooking Performance 25% Weight

The most important criterion. How evenly and consistently does the air fryer cook food? Does it deliver genuine crispness, or just dry heat? Does it handle a range of food types well?

We check: Evenness of browning across the basket, internal temperature accuracy, crispness quality on a standard set of test foods, and consistency across repeated tests.
02

Capacity Accuracy 15% Weight

Manufacturer-stated quart ratings are often optimistic. We assess whether the usable cooking space matches the advertised capacity for realistic food quantities.

We check: Usable basket depth and diameter, single-layer food capacity for chicken thighs and fries, stated vs. actual usable volume.
03

Ease of Cleaning 15% Weight

An air fryer that’s a chore to clean will stop being used. We assess the real-world cleaning experience after cooking greasy, starchy, and protein-based foods.

We check: Basket and drawer non-stick durability, dishwasher compatibility, grease trap accessibility, and hand-cleaning time after a standard cook.
04

Temperature Range & Accuracy 12% Weight

Can the air fryer maintain consistent heat across its advertised temperature range? Wide temperature ranges are only useful if the appliance can actually reach and hold them.

We check: Preheat time, internal temperature at stated settings (measured with a calibrated thermometer probe), and temperature consistency over a 20-minute cook.
05

Build Quality & Durability 10% Weight

Does the unit feel and function like it will last? We evaluate material quality, control interface robustness, basket fit, and any structural concerns.

We check: Housing material (plastic grade vs. brushed metal), basket latch security, control panel responsiveness, and overall structural rigidity.
06

Ease of Use 10% Weight

How intuitive is the daily cooking experience? We evaluate the control interface, preset usefulness, legibility, and how beginner-friendly the unit is out of the box.

We check: First-time setup time, control legibility, preset accuracy, shake reminder function (if present), and clarity of the instruction manual.
07

Energy Efficiency 8% Weight

We compare stated wattage against cook time to assess energy consumption relative to conventional oven cooking for equivalent results.

We check: Rated wattage, average cook time for standard foods vs. conventional oven, and estimated annual energy cost at average US electricity rates.
08

Value for Money 5% Weight

The lowest-weighted criterion โ€” because a cheap product that performs poorly is not good value. We assess price relative to performance, not price in isolation.

We check: Street price at time of review (verified on Amazon), performance score per dollar vs. category average, and warranty coverage.
๐Ÿ“Š
How the Overall Score Is Calculated

Each criterion is scored on a 1โ€“10 scale during evaluation. The weighted average of all eight scores produces the final rating displayed in our reviews (e.g., “9.2 / 10”). A product must score at least 7.0 overall to be recommended in a buying guide. Products scoring below 6.0 are not recommended regardless of price.

Testing Protocols

Standard Test Foods & Conditions

To ensure comparability across reviews, every air fryer is evaluated using the same set of standard test foods, cooked under the same conditions, with the same equipment. We do not use manufacturer-provided settings for test cooks โ€” we use our standard protocol temperatures and times for all models.

๐Ÿ—

Protein Test Foods

  • Frozen chicken breast (from frozen, no thaw)
  • Bone-in chicken thighs (fresh)
  • Salmon fillet (fresh, skin-on)
  • Frozen fish fillets (breaded)
๐ŸŸ

Starch & Vegetable Tests

  • Frozen french fries (standard cut)
  • Fresh potato wedges (hand-cut)
  • Broccoli florets (fresh, lightly oiled)
  • Frozen mozzarella sticks
๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Measurement Tools

  • Instant-read thermometer (internal temp check)
  • Kitchen timer (standardized cook durations)
  • Kitchen scale (consistent food weights)
  • Ruler (basket dimension verification)
๐Ÿ“‹

Test Conditions

  • All models tested at room temperature before first use
  • No preheating unless manufacturer specifies it
  • Standard US household voltage (120V / 60Hz)
  • At least 2 test cooks per food type per model
๐Ÿงน

Cleaning Test Protocol

  • Post-chicken-thigh cook (high-grease scenario)
  • Post-french-fry cook (starch residue scenario)
  • Hand-wash timed from basket removal
  • Dishwasher cycle (where manufacturer permits)
โš–๏ธ

What We Do NOT Do

  • Use manufacturer-provided sample units without disclosure
  • Accept payment to rank products higher
  • Allow affiliate commission rates to affect rankings
  • Test in non-standard power conditions without noting it
โš ๏ธ
Research-Based Reviews vs. Hands-On Testing

Not every product reviewed on AirFryerFinder.com has been physically tested by our team. Where a review is based primarily on manufacturer specifications, verified third-party testing data, and aggregated user feedback rather than hands-on evaluation, this is stated clearly at the top of that review. All buying guide rankings that include a numerical score reflect hands-on testing unless otherwise disclosed.

Affiliate Independence

How Affiliate Links Affect Our Testing

We earn commissions on Amazon purchases made through our links. Here is a precise statement of how this relationship does and does not affect our editorial process.

โœ… What Affiliate Links DO

  • Fund the time required to research, test, and write guides
  • Pay for test unit purchases where we buy products ourselves
  • Appear on product pages after rankings are already determined
  • Enable us to provide this content free to readers

โœ— What Affiliate Links Do NOT Do

  • Influence the order of products in our buying guides
  • Determine which products we choose to review
  • Change our numerical scores or written assessments
  • Result in removal of negative findings from reviews

Amazon’s commission rates vary by product category, not by individual product or brand. Since we primarily link to a single category (air fryers), commission rate differences between products we recommend are negligible and cannot meaningfully influence rankings even if we wanted them to.

Our full affiliate disclosure, including the required Amazon Associates statement and FTC compliance language, is available on our Affiliate Disclosure page.

Content Freshness

Our Update & Re-Review Schedule

Air fryer models are discontinued, updated, and repriced constantly. A review that was accurate six months ago may no longer reflect reality. Here is how we keep our content current.

๐Ÿ“…
Quarterly

Buying Guide Reviews

All “Best of” ranking pages are reviewed every quarter. Discontinued models are removed; newly-released models are added after testing.

๐Ÿ’ฐ
Monthly

Price Verification

Prices displayed in guides are verified against live Amazon listings monthly. Significant price movements trigger a review of the affected model’s value-for-money score.

โš ๏ธ
Immediately

Safety & Recall Alerts

When CPSC issues a recall or safety notice for a reviewed model, we update the relevant review page and buying guides within 24 hours.

๐Ÿ”„
Last Reviewed Dates

Every article on AirFryerFinder.com displays a “Last Updated” date. This reflects the most recent editorial review of the page โ€” not just a metadata timestamp change. If you are reading a guide and the “Last Updated” date is more than 6 months ago, the pricing information in that guide should be verified directly on Amazon before purchase.
